Regarding his work, Valdivieso incorporates into his creative process each of the cultures he has lived in, using contemporary everyday images and older ones, generating a dialogue that initiates his research, where he proposes an iconic atmosphere that oscillates between the poetic and the grotesque, or from the mundane to the profound. Valdivieso challenges the current system, calling it a dystopian territory, where he also holds the art world as complicit in this failed system. He also alludes to the social and even religious-political realms.
He has experimented with various techniques, ranging from more figurative painting, the human figure, and absolute abstraction. He also works with collage in its different forms. In his constant exploration, he has used painting, resin, paper, digital printing, weaving, and image layering, a proposal with various heights that allow him to incorporate shadows and color reflection in most of his paper pieces. Currently, he is exploring sculpture through assemblages, an object collage that also integrates textile art into this process.
Performance is also an important aspect for him, inspired by life and death; he pushes his body to extremes, reminding us of the frantic doubt regarding the truth of life.
Valdivieso is a multidisciplinary artist in constant motion.
